Wayne Charles Launder
December 16, 1947 – August 3, 2026
Wayne Charles Launder passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 3, 2026, at the family cottage on Eagle Lake.
Born on December 16, 1947, in Dryden, Ontario. Wayne was the son of Helen and Charles (Charlie) Launder. He graduated from Dryden High School and worked at the Dryden Mill for 37 years, including later as a Shift Engineer, and finishing off his career working on a special recovery project, retiring in 2004.
Wayne married the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, Ronalda (Roni) Ainslie, on June 10, 1967. Together they raised their two children, Shawn and Todd in various homes in Dryden.
Wayne enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, and many camping trips with family and friends. Wayne always enjoyed sporting events. He and Roni enjoyed travelling together both in Canada and internationally. He loved the mountains, the East Coast and sunny holidays.
Wayne loved to be involved in causes involving children. He cared deeply about children, especially those who didn’t have a voice to advocate for themselves. He volunteered with Boy Scouts, coaching baseball and later tying skates for elementary school kids, even long after his own grandchildren had moved on.
Summers were forever changed in 1995 when Wayne and Ronalda purchased their own piece of paradise on Eagle Lake. Over the years Wayne poured much love into the cabin, creating not only an amazing space but a meaningful legacy. Wayne cherished the community on Panorama Drive. As the community changed over the years, Wayne was quick to lend a hand when he saw his new neighbours having troubles and took on the role of mentor to help newcomers navigate Lake Life.
A few years after becoming Grandparents to Rachel in 2002 and Charlie in 2004, Wayne and Roni moved to Winnipeg, a move they never regretted. The Winnipeg years were often referred to as the best of their lives. Wayne loved being a grandpa. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Rachel and Charlie play sports, going to Goldeyes or Moose games with them, and having sleepovers at the condo.
Wayne is survived by his wife Ronalda of 59 years, children Shawn (Ted), and Todd (Susan), grandchildren Rachel (Shogun) and Charlie (Vicky), sisters Carol and Trudy and sister-in-law Leesa (Bill), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was predeceased by his father Charlie, mother Helen, brother David, mother-in-law Lorraine, father-in-law Ron, brothers in law Mervin and Chris, and many close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 11 am at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. A Private interment at Minnitaki Cemetery to follow.
