Douglas Legros
February 25, 1965 – September 16, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Douglas Legros announces his passing on September 16, 2026, at the Dryden Regional Health Centre, at the age of 61, with his family by his side.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Gerry (Amy) Legros, Raymond Legros, his nephew Dalton Legros his niece, Caitlin Legros, and numerous blended family members whom he enjoyed the company of at family gatherings. He was a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, and his passing leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the lives of all who loved him.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Lucy Legros, and his brother, Alan Legros. He carried the love of his family with him throughout his life, and the memories they shared will remain a lasting source of comfort.

Born in Cassiar, British Columbia, Doug moved with his family to Dryden in 1970. He attended public school and later Dryden High School, where he enjoyed playing hockey and formed friendships and memories that stayed with him over the years.

After graduating from high school, Doug continued his education at the University of Manitoba before returning to Dryden. He worked at several jobs before beginning his career at the Dryden Mill, where he spent many years contributing his time and talents.

Doug found great happiness in the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting throughout the Dryden area and treasured his time on the Manitou Lakes and Wabigoon Lake. These places were more than beautiful surroundings to him; they were where he found peace, shared adventures and created some of his favourite memories with family and friends.

His home on Wabigoon Lake was a special gathering place. Doug loved entertaining and welcomed people with warmth and generosity. There were always stories to tell, laughter to share, and games of cribbage or cards to be played. Time spent with Doug often became time people remembered fondly, because he had a way of making everyone feel comfortable, included, and at home.

Doug will be remembered most for his gentle nature, caring heart, and unwavering loyalty. He was the kind of person who could be counted on when help was needed. He supported his family and friends without hesitation, giving freely of his time, energy, and compassion. His kindness was quiet but deeply felt, and his generosity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Doug’s absence will be felt in countless ways—in the quiet moments by the lake, around a cribbage board, during conversations shared with friends, and in the memories of the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created will remain in their hearts forever.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Doiron, Dr. Cortens, and Dr. Pettinger for the exceptional care, compassion, and support provided to Doug throughout his illness.

The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses, and healthcare team at the Dryden Regional Health Centre for the kindness, dignity, and compassionate care Doug received. A very special thank you goes to Doug’s friends, who provided him with friendship, love, support, and many treasured memories throughout his illness. The family feels truly blessed that Doug was surrounded by such caring and loyal friends. The family also extends their heartfelt appreciation to all of the home-care providers who supported Doug with such dedication and compassion.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date.
